Premium Alumina Suspensions are unique permanent suspensions of our industry standard aluminum oxide abrasive powders. The alkaline chemistry combined with the high-purity (>99.99%) alumina powders provide an optimum solution for critical needs in precision polishing of optical materials, electro-optical materials, laser crystals, ophthalmic lenses, and in metallurgical specimen preparation. Our PAS2- Series Agglomerate-Free Alumina Suspensions are manufactured from our PAP2- series of agglomerate-free aluminum oxide powders. They are typically used in critical polishing applications to produce surface finishes approaching a few angstroms. Please note that the data below represents functional particle sizes, which are typically smaller than measured with standard light scattering metrology. These are indicative of how the particle will act under pressure in a polishing application.
PAS2 Series Premium Alumina Suspensions are safe, aqueous slurries. However, to avoid skin or eye irritation, handlers should use personal protective equipment including, rubber gloves, protective clothing, and eye protection. Follow all MSDS and label precautions and use appropriate industrial safety and hygiene practices when handling or using this product.
The proprietary chemistry used to create the permanent suspension and enhanced removal rates is water-based and does not present the disposal problems traditionally associated with oil or other petroleum bases previously used in the polishing industry.
It is recommended that Alumina Suspensions be used in pure form. However, if diluted, use only high-quality de-ionized water (>18 M ohm). Mild agitation is all that is needed to keep the diluted slurry suspended. The product should be mixed periodically 10-20 min/day, by recirculation or mechanical stirring. Storage and re-use of diluted slurry is not recommended. If diluted slurry is allowed to sit long enough to settle out of suspension, re-use of the settled solids, without proper rework, may cause some minor scratching and should be avoided.
Due to the product unique formulation, it is further recommended that the user should not attempt adjustment of the pH. If a different pH is required, please contact Metallurgical Supplies Support Team at email@example.com
Product must be stored in a temperature controlled environment. Prolonged exposure to temperatures at or below 32° Fahrenheit (0ºC) will damage the slurry. Prolonged exposure to temperatures at or above 100° Fahrenheit (37.8ºC) is also discouraged. In addition, slurry should always be sealed when not in use to prevent evaporation.
